Baydon Parish Assembly
Annual meeting takes place on Friday 15th May 2015
The annual Baydon Parish Assembly took place from 7.30pm on Friday evening (15th May 2015) and was chaired by Andy Knowles who was assisted by Luci Bruins. 21 villagers and local club representatives attended the meeting which took place in the BYPA Hall
The meeting that opened with Parish Chairman Andy Knowles. He announced that apologies had been received from James Sheppard (Wiltshire Council), PC Nick Spargo (Marlborough Police), Julie (Red Lion Pub), Debbie (Baydon Village Stores) and Denise (Little Crickets pre-school)
Andy Knowles asked for two members of the public present to agree that the draft Minutes for last year’s Parish Assembly that took place on 25th April 2014 properly reflected the meeting. This approval was deferred but Andy asked that villagers have a read of the draft Minutes that are available on the Baydon website (as here) and email their approval to the Parish Clerk via parishclerk@baydon.org
Andy Knowles then gave his Parish Council Chairman report to the meeting. This and the details of the reports given by the various village clubs and associations will be provided within the draft Minutes to be issued for this meeting and available on the Baydon website so this news report only provides a summary
Matters raised during the Parish Council report included :- thanks were given his fellow Parish Councillors for the time they give to help the Parish Council undertake its role with specific thanks to Alison Tomkins who after many years had recently stood down as a Parish Councillor, there are now two vacancies on the Parish Council and Andy urged people to get involved, traffic calming was mentioned with the chicanes on Ermin Street slowing vehicles down with Wiltshire Highways speed surveys clearly showing their success, parish finances (as here) have good reserves available so the Parish Council would welcome any suggestions that would benefit the village, the BYPA had worked hard over the last year and the Hall refurbishments continuing recently with new ladies toilets, the playground remains a great local amenity with a current project to introduce swings, dog fouling continues to be a problem but fortunately the vast majority of dog owners do respect our clean village, Andy urged people to get involved in our local events to help make then a successful and good community event and this included supporting our local pub and shop
Village group and establishment representatives then individually gave their reports. The details of which will be included within the draft Minutes of the meeting in due course but in summary included :-

· Baydon St Nicholas Primary School
· The Allotment Association
· Brownies
· Baydon St Nicholas Church
· Baydon Website
· Baydon Golf Society
· The Great Baydon Bake Off
· Baydon Flyers cycle club
Andy Knowles then concluded the meeting with a section on village matters during which he :-
· Gave a vote of thanks to Mark Austen for his continued work in maintaining the Baydon website
· Discussed the project to review and update the Baydon Village Plan (available here)
· Spoke about our local footpaths and a plan to prepare a map of all our local paths to clearly show what did exist in our village area
· He asked that villagers keep the Parish Council aware of anything that needed repairing within the village and the process of getting the Wiltshire Council provided Parish Steward involved
· A vote of thanks was also given to Jo Cooling for taking over the production of the Scene in Baydon to retain this great village publication (latest copy available here)
· Alison Tomkins mentioned the work of the Baydon Link Scheme
· Tamsin Witt stated that the Baydon Ladies Nights at the Red Lion Pub continue to be very well attended and are a good local community event
· Finally Andy Knowles spoke about the event shelters that had been purchased (as used at the Great Baydon Bake Off) and plans to make these available to villagers to borrow making a donation to a local charity / good cause
The meeting then closed at 9.10pm with villagers remaining to enjoy a glass or two of wine
